CyberSecurity is:

  • a superset of Computer Science (because security often involves physical or human processes), and
  • a subset of Privacy (because social impact and legal interpretations are less important than the status of data and systems.)

Security is a curious topic, where the technical capability often does not overlap much at all with the wishes of the users being protected. Often the biggest factors are human perceptions and clumsy legal narratives, and yet there are very real risks and harms involved. Overwhelming complexity is also part of the problem, along with very poor explanations by technologists about the implications of modern computing for society.
