Privacy is the opportunity for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists to address the failure of the sector to implement security. We arrived at the 21st century increasingly reliant on technology that was insecure in every sense, because of industry failure to explain why it is important, and complicity in creating insecure solutions.

"Secure" has many senses, including especially the security of knowing that data has been unchanged, can be restored and how many times it has been copied - none of which has to do with bad-faith intentions.

It is possible (and sometimes essential) to have privacy without security, contrary to many simplistic views.
